Dates and participation

SafeSpace Hacks is hosted online by SafeSpace. The build window opens October 17, 2026 at 12:00 AM Eastern Time and closes November 22 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Online judging runs November 23 at 9:00 AM through November 24 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Results are scheduled for November 25 at 9:00 AM Eastern Time. The Devpost schedule governs deadlines.

Entrants must be students at a recognized educational institution, above the legal age of majority in their country of residence, and eligible under the geographic requirements shown on this site. Companies are excluded. Solo and team entries are welcome; each member must be eligible. Organizers and judges may not enter competing projects.

Scope and original work

Submit one entry per project with a clear connection to security or safety. Identify work created during the event and credit pre-existing components, third-party assets, datasets, and AI assistance. Any stack may be used when its terms permit it. Submit only material you have permission to use.

Demonstrate responsibly

Use synthetic data, local demonstrations, or systems you own or have explicit permission to test. Do not attack third-party services, collect private credentials, reveal personal information, or publish live exploit details. A protective tool should not create avoidable risk for its users. Explain limitations rather than promising guaranteed safety. Projects are prototypes and should not be presented as replacements for emergency services.

Submission package

Complete your Devpost project page with a problem statement, solution, team, credits, screenshots, and an accessible demo, build, or recorded walkthrough. A short video is optional. Keep judging links working through November 24.

Evaluation

Four equally weighted criteria are scored from 1 to 5: Safety Benefit, Practical Functionality, Trust & Responsible Design, and Clarity & User Experience. Rank eligible projects by total score. Ties are resolved by Safety Benefit, then Practical Functionality, then a comparative review by judges.

Respect and fairness

Harassment, discrimination, plagiarism, cheating, and interference with other entries are prohibited. Entries that violate these requirements may be excluded from judging. Contact the organizers through the contact link for questions or concerns.
